Frieren (the Suitor waterfall) lies on the opposite side of Geirangerfjorden to De syv søstrene waterfall. It is not particularly high but divides as it tumbles down the mountainside so that bare rock is visible in the middle of the waterfall, resembling a bottle. The story goes that Frieren - the suitor - was forever wooing De syv søstrene - the seven sisters - on the opposite side of the fjord, but he was always spurned, and eventually he became so depressed that he took to the bottle instead. | ||||||
